Aircraft Background[]
The supersonic Scimitar was first proposed in 1958 as a replacement for the Sea Vixen. The dorsal bulge and pointed nose created a significantly different looking aircraft to the Scimitar. The Aircraft was modified with upgraded engines, all weather radar and leading edge air blowing to reduce take off speed by 9 mph. The wings were significantly thinner to reduce drag.
These modifications developed an aircraft that was the UK’s Phantom - not only similar in performance, but appearance.
