|Supermarine Type 567|
|Supermarine Type 567 in prototype Livery|
|Primary Use||Military, Naval Strike|
Aircraft Background Edit
The Fleet Air Arm were retiring the Westland Wyvern prop strike aircraft in 1958 and required a stop gap until the introduction of the Bucaneer in 1962. The Scimitar was three prototypes and six production models into its build when Vickers-Supermarine proposed the 567 for this gap.
In addition to the obvious tandem seating arrangement, the main difference to the Scimitar was the incorporation of aileron blowing in addition to the blown flaps. The different mission required a different payload - two huge (500gal) drop tanks, removal of guns and 4 1,00lb bombs.
